After the qualifiers, Goofy is heartbroken when Max harshly disowning his father and telling him to "leave alone and get own life!". Max's team barely makes it into the semi-finals. Goofy joins his son on campus to achieve the degree. Meanwhile, Goofy doesn't take Max's leaving very well and suffers from empty nest syndrome, his depression results in him to lose his job at a toy factory, and is required to finish his senior year of college to obtain a degree before he can get better employment. A rivalry starts between Max's team and Bradley's Gammas, and they bet whoever loses in the finals will be towel-boy to the other.

Bradley invites only Max to join his fraternity, but Max refuses to leave his friends behind. Upon arriving, Max is met by the "Gamma Mu Mu" fraternity, who are the reigning X-Games champions, including their leader, Bradley Uppercrust III. He strives to work together with his friends to become the top team at the college X-Games. Max Goof, now nearly 18 years old, departs for college with his best friends P.J. Goofy repeatedly embarrasses Max, and their bond is tested as never before. So he's understandably flustered when his dad crashes his college life to finish his own degree. For his part, Max, who is more cool and collected than his frantic and clumsy father, is eager to take on some fresh experiences with his new independence. In this animated family film, the aptly named Goofy (Bill Farmer) is deeply proud of his college-bound son, Max (Jason Marsden).
